Protecting, Promoting and Preserving General Aviation in RI

The RIPA Executive Committee has constant communication with members of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation Board of Directors and staff. RIAC also presents at many of our monthly meetings with updates and projects at our RI airports that affect our pilots and airspace.

RIPA monitors the RI State Legislature for aviation-related issues and the FAA for changes in regulations. Most recently — in conjunction with other aviation-related groups — RIPA was instrumental in relieving the RI sales taxes on aviation purchases. In past years, RIPA representatives spoke up about having the RI Highway Use Tax eliminated for aviation fuels, and a curfew for Providence was avoided.

Applications for the construction of towers that would conflict with flight and/or airport operations are presented before the members for their comments and responses to both the state of RI and the FAA. Noise complaints, especially those from airport neighbors, are addressed and, if possible, remedies instituted. RIPA is the voice for general aviation in Rhode Island.
