RIAC Access to Public Record Request (APRA)
In response to various Rhode Island Access to Public Records Act (APRA) requests to RIAC, we provide a library of information provided for public dissemination. What we have found is that when RIAC senior leadership is contacted with ideas regarding the vision for our GA airports or specific questions about an ongoing or proposed development, the questions are turned into ARPA requests. Example question “I assume you would reclaim the various parcels that are currently leased for non-aviation purposes before you would repurpose land that is currently used by GA tenants for T-hangars”? RIAC Response: “Please be advised that we do not have any documents that are responsive to your request.”
Request Re:Development Strategy at Quonset (Jan, 2022)
In December, 2021 RI Pilots became aware that RIPA was undergoing an ~$10M bathroom renovation at PVD TF Green Airport (or whatever the marketing people are calling it now). This seems like an excessive amount to spend on what amounts to “gold plated toilets” for a regional airport. RIAC justified the expenditure in the media by comparing themselves to the main airport in Honolulu, Hawaii, a major tourist destination with significantly more revenue than PVD. What was bewildering to to RI Pilots is why would RIAC spend this kind of money on a bathroom renovation at PVD, when the old tower terminal building at Quonset has been vacant for 15 years, and money was pulled out of the GA budget approximately 6 years ago to spend at PVD. The idea is knocking down the old terminal and building a new mixed-use hangar facility at Quonset would promote aviation and economic growth. RI Pilots did some digging on the bathroom renovations, but did not find anything improper or out of the norm in regards to the contractor performing the renovations. It was just the amount of money that was spent on the bathrooms at PVD seems extraordinary, when some of the facilities at the GA airports are lacking.
